THE VALE COLLECTION
An archive of natural history, exploration, and observations yet to be accounted for.
The surviving records of Edmund Alistair Vale offer an unusual insight into the work of a nineteenth-century naturalist whose interests extended well beyond the established boundaries of his discipline.
His collection comprises field journals, geographical surveys, anatomical studies, botanical illustrations, and a considerable number of specimens and objects of uncertain classification.
Many of his observations are accompanied by precise measurements, detailed sketches, and references to contemporary scientific literature. Others remain incomplete, their circumstances of discovery obscured by missing pages, conflicting accounts, or the absence of supporting evidence.
Whether these records represent overlooked natural phenomena, errors of interpretation, or discoveries not yet understood remains a matter for further examination.
The collection is presented here as it survives, with its uncertainties intact.
